Luke 2:8-9 “And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them…”
“An angel of the Lord appeared to them…” abruptly, without warning. Have you ever noticed that God has a way of showing up and speaking when we least expect it? We may try to position ourselves to receive “a message from God” through extended times of prayer, fasting and other religious venues, but I’ve found that God rarely stands on ceremony and then, never at our command.
However, when He does want to communicate–bang!—the heavens part, light breaks through and His Words fall upon us, unbidden. When God has something to say, He just says it. And He often drops His extraordinary words at our feet right in the midst of the mundane.
So whether you are knee deep in diapers or neck deep in paperwork and deadlines, don’t be too surprised if God reaches into the middle of your day with an unexpected message of joy for you this Christmas season.
Now wouldn’t that be just like Him?
What “good tidings of great joy” has God delivered to your doorstep?
