Get Empowered for God's Call

What work has God called you to do that feels beyond your reach?

Last year God used a single verse to empower me to complete a monumental task. A dream, really. He challenged me to participate in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month where you write an entire book in 30 days). While the idea inspired me, the thought of doing it? Overwhelming. Nevertheless, I took up God’s call and He empowered me to complete a book in 30 days.

Throughout the venture, God used this verse to guide me around obstacles, over discouragement, through fatigue, and across the finish line to victory.

“Trust in the Lord and do good. Dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.” Psalm 37:3

Sounds basic. Simple. But what a difference it made in the everyday struggle as I battled through that challenge!

Here is how God spoke through that verse:

Trust in the Lord: Believe Me and trust My Word! Go for it! Don’t you believe what I’ve promised you?

If we believe God we’ll act on it by trusting Him to empower us to fulfill His call.

Whether we feel able, qualified–

–or not.

Do good: Do the work!

In every call of God there’s work to be done. Basic, practical nuts and bolts stuff. Tons of prayer, lots of prep. In fact, that ordinary concrete mixing, pouring, laying “boring” stuff is vital. Foundational. It supports and provides a strong framework for the thrilling adventure that follows.

For my NaNoWriMo project, God empowered my writing, stretched my time, multiplied my efforts to achieve victory, but I had to sit down and write. This is where we falter and why we fail to fulfill God’s call.

We don’t do the work.

God will move to fulfill His plan, but we have a practical part to play in it.

Dwell in the land: Be all in!

There’s no easing in, a toe at a time. No standing on the edge wavering in doubt and uncertainty. God challenges us to fully commit our heart, mind, and time to what He’s given us to do. We are to live (schedule our time and activities) like we believe He is going to accomplish His call.

Enjoy safe pasture: Now rest. I will fulfill My promises and I will complete the work.

As we do our part–trusting God and working faithfully on the practical stuff–we can be certain our faithful God will do His part and empower us to fulfill every detail of His call. And that confidence will strengthen us to stay the course and complete the work.

“Trust in the LORD and do good. Dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.”

The power of God’s Word never fails to thrill and amaze me!

This year God’s challenge for me is different. Yet He presents this verse as a plumb-line again and again for encouragement and focus. He keeps it in my view empowering me for the out-of-reach tasks He’s laid before me today.

How about you? What work has God given you today? Do you believe He can accomplish what He’s called you to do? Will you trust Him? Then do the work, that’s your part, and be “all in.” Then expect to enjoy “safe pasture” as God carries you over the line to victory!
